York Mind will be running online video call groups, each of which will last either 4 or 5 weekly sessions of 1 hour, with extra time to chat at the end. A new round of these groups is starting in June.
These will be:
Words & Wellbeing
These groups explore how words and writing can be used to support emotional well-being, with a particular focus on expressing emotions and building positive wellbeing. Any level of literacy can join this group, and work on using writing to work towards a positive future.
The 16-21 group will run on Mondays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Monday 29th June. The 11-15 group will run on Tuesdays 4.30-5.30pm, starting on Tuesday 30th June.
Emotional Wellbeing Toolkits
In these groups you will explore techniques for managing anxiety and low mood that can be created to be used within the home, such as creating positivity jars and learning calming exercises.
The 16-21 group will run on Thursdays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Thursday 25th June. The 11-15 group will run on Fridays 4.30-5.30pm, starting on Friday 26th June.
In these groups you will learn skills around being present in the moment and aware of your own emotional processes, which can be used to help promote a positive state of mind. These skills can be useful to move forward from repeated stressful thought patterns and anxieties.
There will be a 16-21 Mindfulness group, running on Thursdays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Thursday 25th June.
Visual Art & Self-Esteem
You will explore identity and individuality through creative mediums such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture or puppetry to learn how to focus on positive aspects of who they are and promote good self-esteem. You do not need to be an artist to join, everyone is welcome and we will be creating whatever art makes you feel good!
The 16-21 group will run on Mondays from 4.30pm-5.30pm starting from Monday 13th July. The 11-15 group will run on Wednesdays from 4.30pm-5.30pm, starting from Wednesday 15th July.
Referrals can be made either through the website, or texting the drop in number. An adult with your permission can also make the referral for you.
Please note referrals for telephone mentoring are currently closed. Referrals are expected to reopen later this year.
Young People aged 8-21 can refer in to receive mentoring support over the phone. You will have between 3 to 6 months of support, usually through fortnightly sessions. Each session will be with the same mentor, allowing you to build a trusting relationship. Your mentor will support you to set goals to improve your wellbeing, and to identify coping strategies that work for you. They will speak to you as a person, not just focusing on your mental health, but also your passions and interests.
