How we help

Young People’s Service - COVID-19 RESPONSE

During the period of social distancing due to the Coronavirus outbreak, York Mind’s Young People Project will be offering the following  services to young people aged between 11-21 years old. We will also be offering Young People's Counselling for 16-25 year olds. For further information about our Young People`s Counselling Service click on the tab on the left.

Telephone Drop-In

If you are aged between 11-21 and are struggling with your emotions, you can text 07483167931 and ask to speak on the phone or by text. We will text you back within 48 hours. If you would like a phone call, this text will include a time for that phone call within the next 7 days. 

We will chat to you about anything you are struggling with and like to chat about, and help you make a plan for moving forward.  You can also use the drop in to find out more about our other services below, and sign up for them if you would like.

Telephone Mentoring                              

Young People aged 11-21 can refer in to receive mentoring support over the phone. You will have up to six sessions, either weekly or fortnightly. Each session will be with the same mentor, allowing you to build a trusting relationship. Your mentor will support you to set goals to improve your wellbeing, and to identify coping strategies that work for you. They will speak to you as a person, not just focusing on your mental health, but also your passions and interests.

Online Groups

York Mind will be running online video call groups, each of which will last either 4 or 5 weekly sessions of 1 hour, with extra time to chat at the end. A new round of these groups is starting in June. 

These will be:

Creative Writing 

The 16-21 group will run on Mondays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Monday 15th June. The 11-15 group will run on Tuesdays 4.30-5.30pm, starting on Tuesday 16th June.

These groups are suitable for both absolute beginners, and experienced writers. They are a chance to have a go at writing, and to explore its use as a way of expressing and coping with emotions. 

Emotional Wellbeing Toolkits  

The 16-21 group will run on Thursdays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Thursday 25th June. The 11-15 group will run on Fridays 4.30-5.30pm, starting on Friday 26th June.

In these groups you will explore techniques for managing anxiety and low mood that can be created to be used within the home.

Mindfulness skills 

There will be a 16-21 Mindfulness group, running on Thursdays from 4.30-5.30pm, starting from Thursday 25th June. In these groups you will learn skills around being present in the moment and aware of your own emotional processes, which can be used to help promote a positive state of mind.

Referrals can be made either through the website, or texting the drop in number. An adult with your permission can also make the referral for you.
