Active Minds
York Mind are creating the six week projects within schools, for a space in time to talk and have perhaps difficult conversations around mental health issues. Connecting mental health and physical health together in one group.
No sport experience is necessary and all abilities are 100% welcome!
The sport will be ran by the sport specialist and the chat/discussion will be led by a member of staff from York Mind!
Aims & outcomes of chat/discussion:
- To provide a safe space to discuss thoughts and mental health issues
- A safe and supportive space to connect with others
- Create a better understanding of self
- Improved confidence and self-esteem
- Improved ability to communicate effectively
- Increased ability to deal with unexpected events
- Developed decision making skills
- Reduce isolation
- Increased independence
- Developed emotional resilience
The sessions will consist of:
- 1 hour sport
- 30 minutes chat/discussion
This is taking place in York schools, the groups are made up either by the teachers asking if they want to take part or young people putting themselves forward and wanting to join. Please see below where the external sports provision and York Mind are collaborating in which schools.
