Move Everyday In May

To support Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, we are exploring moving more and how it can have an impact on our mental health, physical health and general wellbeing.  

We need as many businesses, teams or individuals as possible to sign up to the York Mind Step Challenge. You can complete this challenge as a business wide competition, a team challenge or as personal goal - raising funds for the local services that York Mind provide along the way. The most important thing is that you have loads of fun! 

This could be walking to work, parking a few streets away from the office, going for a lunchtime stroll, hosting walking meetings or even star jumps on the spot in the staff room 

The Aim: To move as much as possible throughout May!

When: The York Mind May Step Challenge starts on 1st May 2024 

Who: Anyone. You can join as an individual or as a team or as a business 

What do you need: A pedometer, a smart phone or a smart watch to keep a track of your steps. 

How does it work: It couldn’t be easier! Click to download the York Mind May Step Challenge Posters and Step Tracker Sheets. 

For Individuals

  1. Download the Step Tracker Sheet here.

  2. Set a goal or personal challenge. This doesn’t have to be major, just aim to do a little more than you do now! 

  3. Spread the word amongst your peers, friends and family and ask them to sponsor you to reach your May Step Challenge Goal. You can set up a JustGivingPage here. 

  4. Record your steps using a pedometer, smart phone or smart watch. Recording your steps everyday within the Step Tracker Sheet here.

  5. At the end of May use a calculator to total all of your steps throughout May! Be proud and share your total with peers, friends and family! 

Once you have completed the challenge, take a picture of your Step Tracker Sheet and send to your Community Fundraiser at York Mind, Ben Mahon (ben.mahon@yorkmind.org.uk) to be entered into the Move Everyday in May prize draw! 

For organisations

Depending on the size of your business why not add a little competition between internal teams, or individuals within your team!

  1. Download the May Step Challenge Poster to promote the challenge and get as many people involved as possible. 

  2. Think about a prize that your organisation may be able to offer for the individual or team that does the most steps or raises the most money – this could be an extra day off work, a lie-in and late start, a free lunch or a local café voucher.

  3. Each person that takes part in the challenge will need a Step Tracker Sheet – we suggest asking for an entry fee donation between £2-£5 from each participant.

  4. At the end of each week run a total per individual or team to track who is in the lead – you could even set up a weekly leader board to spark a little motivation! 

  5. At the end of May, award the prize to the individual or team that has recorded the most steps 

Once you have completed the challenge take pictures of your Step Tracker Sheets and send to your Corporate Fundraiser at York Mind Emma Chapman emma.chapman@yorkmind.org.uk for a chance to be entered into the Move Everyday in May prize draw!
