Mental Well Being for Schools and Colleges

At York Mind we regularly campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma associated with mental ill health. With 1 in 10 young people experiencing mental health difficulties and in line with current research around early intervention, we are keen to come into schools and colleges to get people talking.

Our school talks last about an hour and our workshops between two and three hours. The sessions can work really well with large groups of students too, with full year groups catered for. The sessions are an interactive and fun way of raising awareness about a serious issue and take the format of interactive group work interspersed with some brief PowerPoint slides.

The content of the sessions cover:

  • A basic understanding of mental health
  • Looking at stigma
  • Stress and basic stress management
  • How to spot the signs of common mental health conditions in ourselves and others
  • A word on suicide prevention – keeping ourselves and others safe
  • A toolkit for mental resilience and wellbeing.

We can also offer bespoke talks and sessions to better meet your students’ needs (i.e. eating disorders self-harm etc.). These would be developed specifically according to your requirements. Similarly we also offer courses specifically designed for teaching staff including stress reduction, mental resilience and Mindfulness.
