Promoting open conversations amongst young men
Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45. On the 14th December 2020, the world lost an incredible human being; a brother, a son, a husband, a father, a dear friend. Bruce was an extremely popular character to all those who knew him.
A Journey of Hope:
On 27th May, a group of Bruce’s family & friends embarked on the famous Coast to Coast trail; walking from St Bees, in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay; an average of 20 miles a day for 10 consecutive days. With limited training and experience, the group were driven by the support of friends, family and strangers, further motivated by the awareness they were raising and promoting open conversations around men’s mental health.
“Reaching out and speaking about your mental health challenges is not a weakness, it shows huge strength and character. Reaching out for help is the first step to recovery and no one should have to go through this process alone” - Close family member of Bruce
The Money raised:
The money raised from the walk will be used to develop a series of early intervention and suicide prevention projects designed to promote open conversations amongst young men. These projects were designed with and for young men (11-16) in response to the knowledge that generally young men stop talking around age 11. We want to change that!
