School Talks

At York Mind we regularly campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma associated with mental ill health.

With 1 in 10 young people experiencing mental health difficulties and in line with current research around early intervention, we are keen to come into schools and get people talking.

Our school talks last about an hour and work really well with large groups of students with table facilitators. The sessions are an interactive and fun way of raising awareness about a serious issue and take the format of interactive group work interspersed with some brief PowerPoint slides.

The content of the sessions cover:

  • A basic understanding of mental health
  • Looking at stigma
  • Hearing Voices
  • Stress and basic stress management

These talks are offered at no charge, however as we are a charity a donation would be welcome.

We can also offer bespoke talks and sessions to better meet your students’ needs (i.e. eating disorders self-harm etc.). These would be developed specifically according to your requirements and would be delivered at a charge.

In 2016 we have;

  • Visited 8 schools across York and the surrounding area
  • Delivered talks to 402 pupils
  • Visited York University 5 times
  • Delivered sessions to 232 students
