Sandburn Hall to host first York Mind Charity Golf Day
Former York headteacher David Ellis is the new Captain of Sandburn Hall Golf Club, and has today launched an appeal for local golfers to enter teams into the first York Mind Charity Golf Day on Thursday 5th September 2019.
David has chosen York Mind as his nominated charity for his captain’s year. With the support of Sandburn Hall members and staff, David has a number of events and activities planned for the year including the York Mind Charity Golf Day, in which he invites teams of 4 to enter to have a chance to take home the prestigious title – as well as raising money for much needed mental health support in the local area.
David said “I am really looking forward to my year, and choosing York Mind was a very easy decision. In my professional life I have seen the impact of mental health issues on adults and young people and everyone is aware of the increase in demand for support for people who are suffering from a whole range of mental health issues. York Mind is a great local charity that not only offers counselling services, but also advocacy, training, peer support and a number of mental health and well being activities.“
Holly Bilton from York Mind said: “We are so pleased that David and Sandburn Hall are supporting us this year, and we hope that the York community including businesses and budding golfers will sign up for our York Mind Charity Golf Day. We are looking for teams of four players and the team entry donation is £160, which includes coffee and a roll on arrival, the golf itself, plus a two course meal afterwards. It’s set to be a fantastic way to support mental health in York, whilst enjoying some healthy competition and appreciating the stunning surroundings of Sandburn Hall’.
David said “We are hoping for a successful day. At a time when the mental health of men is a particular concern it seems appropriate that we are using the game of golf to help York Mind. Playing golf or any sport is not only good for our physical health but provides a sense of community and friendship which helps us all cope with life challenges.”
James Hogg, Director of Sandburn Hall, said “We are delighted to be able support David and York Mind by hosting the Charity Golf Day and we look forward to hosting the teams in September.”
