New: Peer Support Groups at York Mind

From January 2019, York Mind will deliver 3 separate peer support groups on a weekly basis.

  • Structured- 12 week closed groups.
  • Semi Structured- 12 week open groups, new people join monthly.
  • Flexible- 6 month open groups, new people join monthly.

Closed– no new referrals accepted after start date.

Open– new referrals accepted after start date.

For all groups access is by referral only.

Structured delivered by Lisa Wilson (2.30-4pm Mondays)

This group continues the current Monday group. Members who sign up will be offered 12 weeks peer support with an option to continue for 3 months if space is available, or a move into the semi structured or flexible group for a further 3 months. The group will provide 45 mins peer support and 45 mins topic focused learning. No new members will be added after the start date of the group. Attendance will be monitored with an expectation members attend each week and take responsibility to ring in if unable to attend. Max 12 places.

Semi Structured delivered by Pam Wells (2.30-4pm Wednesdays)

This group continues the current Wednesday group. Members who sign up will be offered 12 weeks peer support with an option to continue for 3 months if space is available, or a move into the structured or flexible group for a further 3 months. The group will offer both peer support and guided topic learning dependent on needs of the group each week. Attendance will be monitored with an expectation members attend regularly and take responsibility to ring in if unable to attend. If a member misses 2 or more sessions in a row contact will be made to review place. New members added at monthly intervals. 12 -15 places.

Flexible delivered by Pam Wells  11.30-1pm Tuesdays)

This group will run 11.30am-1pm on Tuesdays and replace the current second Monday group. Members can sign up for 6 months access to this group. The group will provide solely peer support with members leading discussions. Attendance will be monitored with an expectation that members attend at least once a month to retain place. There is less expectation on members to ring in and inform of non -attendance. However, if a member misses 4 sessions in a row they will be contacted about their place. New members added at monthly intervals. 15 places.

Move on

Following access to peer support for 6 months, a client will be asked to leave peer support and have a break for at least 3 months before reapplying, in order to practice the skills learned in the group in their outside life.
