Peer Support Group (13-16 and 16-21)
We run weekly peer support groups for young people who are struggling with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. There are two groups, one for 13-16 year olds and one for 16-21 year olds.
The sessions are social and supportive, focused on discussing ways of feeling more positive and putting them into action.
When first entering a new group, you are encouraged to take small steps to becoming involved. It's always your choice whether you speak about a particular topic, or join in an activity, and we encourage you to take part at your own pace. If you're anxious about coming into a group for the first time, we'll speak with you beforehand to discuss what will help you to attend.
Young people take leadership of the groups, deciding on important topics to discuss and the most comfortable way to lay out the sessions. You decide on and contact visitors to the group, previous examples including speakers discussing mental health and sleep, and body image. The group also collaborate to plan trips outside of York Mind, previously including laserquest and energi trampolining, which are then optional to attend.
