Dramatherapy

Our Dramatherapy group sessions will be facilitated on Wednesdays by our Trainee Dramatherapist. These sessions will run at Highcliffe House, York, YO30 6BP. The intervention will take place once a week over ten week's with 1h 30min sessions.

What is Dramatherapy?

Dramatherapy is a specialist psychological therapy which allows clients to access an alternative form of expression. Dramatherapy utilises the creative arts as a whole; drama, music and art. Through the use of Drama and theatre processes, it provides participants with the opportunity to tell their stories, achieve goals, explore and process difficult experiences, express feelings and overcome obstacles.

What a Dramatherapy session looks like?

Workshops are person-centred and may focus on a particular theme, myth, story or issue drawn from the feelings and attitudes of the group/ individual. It may start with the group creating a space or a tableau; participants are then invited into the space in their chosen role and are encouraged to explore various elements of their character, such as their physicality and voice.

We have 2 Dramatherapy groups, both will be held on a Wednesday at our premises at Highcliffe House, YO30 6BP, starting 1st June:

  • A mixed group for young people aged 11-13 (4:30pm - 6:00pm)

  • An all boys group for young people aged 16+ (6:15pm - 7:45pm)
