About the Service
Counselling offers a regular space to talk about the issues that you have in your life. You will meet your counsellor in a private and confidential setting on a weekly basis. Your counsellor will have the skills and training needed to help you explore your feelings and guide you through the issues effecting your life.
We have identified a need to provide affordable counselling to people who are employed on a low income, and offer counselling between the hours of 17:00 and 20:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
You are able to access up to 16 sessions. These are held weekly at our premises at Highcliffe House.
How can this help me?
Counselling can help people with a number of issues. The sessions can be helpful for people who may or may not have a mental health diagnosis, so you do not have to have a specific condition to access the support. Some examples of issues things that people bring to counselling include depression, anxiety, relationships, abuse, bereavement and loss.
Your counsellor will not judge you or tell you what to do, but will listen and help support you to make sense about events in your life.
Who can access?
Please note that this service is only available to people who currently have work or other commitments during the day.
York Mind is a non-profit making charity funded through grants, service contracts and by contributions received from clients.
Our general counselling service receives no direct funding. To ensure the continuation of the service for everyone, we use a sliding scale of payment (with a minimum of £18 per session for evening sessions) in order to help you identify an affordable payment for your counselling sessions.
To refer in, simply complete our referral form here (Or download the Word Version and send to email@example.com. **Please state on your referral form that the service you are interested in is General Evening Counselling.**
We aim to be in touch within two weeks of receiving your referral, after which you will be placed on a waiting list.
What will Happen Next?
When your referral is at the top of the waiting list, a member of the counselling team will contact you to arrange a face to face assessment. This will offer an opportunity to share a little bit about your situation, explore what counselling is and how it may be able to help. If you feel that the support is something that will be helpful to you, you will then be offered up to 16 weekly sessions with a trained counsellor.
