*****Sunday Coffee Club-Relaunched  York Mind Sunday Coffee Club

We are delighted to invite you back to our Sunday Coffee Club at York Mind. A great place to socialise, chat, enjoy a coffee and engage in some fun activities.

Based at York Mind, Highcliffe House, Highcliffe Court, York YO30 6BP, the club is free and open each Sunday from 2-4pm.

Tea and Coffee is free but there will be a small charge for other refreshments.

Squiigle1_RGBFACE TO FACE: Well-Being Peer Support (Daytime)    Wellbeing Peer Support November 2021   

Our well-being peer support groups offer a safe space to connect with others, share experiences and work on topics chosen by the group members. Offered on an afternoon, the group is confidential and facilitated by a member of York Mind.

The group operates as a closed group. This means no new members will be added after the start date. This enables members to build trust, rapport and connect. Our groups are non-clinical, non-therapy groups, offering a real space to support each other.

York Mind Book Club       Monthly Book Club Sept 2021

Do you enjoy reading and exploring books with other people?

Our monthly book club offers a space to read new books and enjoy good conversation with other like minded people. 

The group will be delivered once per month, the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

Managing Anxieties  Managing Anxieties Sept 2021

We all experience stress and anxiety at times. It is a normal part of life.

But too much can adversely affect our health and well-being. Our 8 week course looks at coping strategies to help manage these feelings and help you to identify your personal triggers.

Creative Writing and Poetry Creative Writing September 2021

Do you have a story to tell? Would you like to learn a new skill?

Our 6 week course will help you unleash your imagination, and put pen to paper to bring your stories to life. Creativity is clinically recognised, as beneficial for mental health including recovering from depression and anxiety. Why not give it a go and see what you can do?

Evening Mindfulness  Mindfulness Evening Sept 21

Mindfulness is a technique, which involves paying more attention to ourselves in the present moment. Mindfulness can offer positive health benefits helping people to feel calmer, manage stress better, reduce anxiety and help prevent depression.

Over 8 weeks we will explore Mindfulness together. Why not join us and start really living in the here and now!

Men's Well-Being in Action Group (Peer Support for Men)   Men's Well-Being in Action Group Sept 2021

Talking about our struggles in life isn't always easy. For Men speaking up can be made harder by social expectations and traditional stereotypes on gender... For Men to be strong, courageous, in control and in charge of their emotions. We say " No need to Man up, Just Speak Up".

Our 10 week group will focus on Men's mental health and well-being, providing a safe and supportive space for members to come together and share experiences.

Hatha Yoga at York Mind      Hatha Yoga f2f                                  

An 8 week course in Hatha Yoga, breathing and relaxation techniques

Yoga is a gentle form of exercise, which helps to unwind the stresses; mental, emotional and physical, that we experience from day to day life.

It helps us to move mindfully, listen to our bodies, can improve flexibility, strength, and can have a positive effect on our mood and general well-being.

Building Confidence and Resilience              Building Confidence and Resilience OCT 2021

Our facilitated 8 week course will look at practical ways of managing emotions, by exploring how we think and behave. In doing this, we will be able to reflect on how we could change our thoughts, in order to feel more confident, resilient and connected.

York Mind Advent Crafts                 Advent Crafts November 2021

Do you enjoy the run up to Christmas? Would you like to create some bespoke gifts for your family and friends?

Our advent craft group will get those creative juices flowing. You will get the chance to make some lovely gift items, cards and tree decorations, whilst having the opportunity to socialise as a group.

Healthy Festive Baking   Healthy Baking 2021

Are you interested in baking? Would you like to learn how to make some healthy Christmas treats? 

Our baking group will meet together over 6 weeks and make mince pies, gingerbread people, healthy cakes and brownies, all inspired by our fantastic facilitator.

Aquatic Activity at Yearsley Swimming Pool, Haley's Terrace, York YO31 8SB  better logo 

Commencing Friday 15th October 2021, 12.30-1.30pm (great lunchtime fitness session)

Our Partner Better York’s 6 week programme will involve multiple activities, including General swim for fitness (lanes), and aquatic fitness sessions directed by a fully qualified Aquatic Fitness for Health practitioner. This is not just a turn-up and swim session, these sessions can include pockets of people participating across the pool in a number activities. Lane swimming, aqua-jog, or water gym based activities. Sessions are available for all abilities.

1If I don't live in York, can I still access York Mind Activities?

The Activities programme is funded for residents of the City of York Council boundary. (This means that you pay your Council Tax to City of York Council.) We are also able to accept limited referrals for those living within a 25 mile radius of York, but priority will be given to York residents if groups are oversubscribed.

2How many activities can I join?

You can enrol on as many activities as you wish. However, we ask that you prioritise the activities you would like to access by putting the most important one first. We will try and meet your first preferred choice, where possible. However, this is dependent on a number of factors including:

  • If you are new to the project and haven't accessed anything before;
  • Spaces available

3When will I know if I have a space on my chosen activity?

We aim to allocate places 2 weeks before the activity start date (please note: If you have not accessed our activities programme before your enrolment will be prioritised). This is to ensure we have sufficient enrolments for the activity and to check that you are still interested and can attend. In some cases, you may hear from us quite close to the start date for example, if a place has become available due to someone else being unable to attend.

If you do not hear from us by the course start date please assume you have not been successful in obtaining a place on the specific activity.

4What if I can't attend every week of an activity?

By accepting a place on an activity you are committing to attending all or most of the sessions.  However, if you are unable to attend (due to illness/prior appointments) then please let us know by calling 01904 643364 Option 5- Activities

As activity places are in demand and we often have people on waiting lists, regular attendance is important.

5What facilities are available at York Mind?

York Mind’s activity rooms are on the first floor of the building, there is a lift available. We have a downstairs accessible toilet and two upstairs toilets near our activity rooms. There is limited parking close to the building and although we do not have any designated disabled spaces we may be able to reserve a space outside the building if you have access needs.  However, this may not always be possible. 

Free teas, coffee and water are available during activities (with the exception of the coffee club). You are welcome to bring your own refreshments if you require these.

We also have free public WiFi  available.

Please make the Activities Team aware if you have any access needs and we will try and assist. 

6Do I have to enrol online- or are there other options?

If you are unable to enrol on-line you can call the Activities Team on 01904 643364 Option 5 Activities, to complete the form over the phone, or ask for a copy to be sent to you. You can also email the team at: activities@yorkmind.org.uk , to request a form by email or post.

7How do I access activities via Zoom?

Due to COVID-19, a number of our activities have moved to being delivered online instead of face to face. York Mind and our partners are committed to ensuring the safety of our participants and our staff during this time, and will be adhering to all government guidance and social distancing guidelines.

We are using Zoom online platforms to deliver activities. Participants will require equipment such as a laptop, PC computer, tablet, I- pad, or a smartphone, and access to the internet, to access the full online groups. For those without the necessary equipment, there is a dial in function, which means you can access the group via the telephone. You will not be able to see the rest of the group, but will be able to hear the content of the group.

If you require support accessing Zoom, York Mind can offer some basic training support. Please enquire at your enrollment assessment.
