Volunteer Young People's (16 to 25) Counsellors
Are you a qualified counsellor who is a member of the BACP? Do you have experience of supporting young people? Would you like to gain experience of working within a charitable organisation?
If so, we have an exciting volunteer placement opportunity for you.
York Mind’s Young People’s counselling service promotes positive mental health through providing a confidential space for young people to talk to a trained person about something that is on their mind or is a problem to them. We are able to offer clients access to six (once weekly) free sessions at our premises at 30 Clarence Street, York.
We are currently looking for suitably trained counsellors to help us further develop and expand our successful service. We ask that you be able to commit to at least 2 – 3 hours each week (supporting 2 to 3 clients per week), ideally on either a Monday, Tuesday or Friday.
In return we will offer you:
- A friendly and supportive environment in which to practice, including 1:1 support from the counselling team and volunteer team meetings.
- Expenses including a paid contribution of £30 towards your monthly clinical supervision costs.
- Free CPD workshops for all our counselling volunteers (we run two per year).
- 50% course fee reduction for attendance at ASIST and MHFA training run by York Mind.
Essential requirements for this role include having a graduate diploma in counselling and hold individual membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Previous experience of working with young people is preferred. Please see the role description for more information. The recruitment process will involve an informal discussion with the counselling team, collection of references and an enhanced DBS check.
If you would like to chat about the role please ring the Counselling Manager, Helen Fairburn, on 01904 643364 (Option 1).
