Staying in doesn't have to be boring.
Do something epic from the comfort of your home!
With the majority of 2020’s 'in person' fundraising events now postponed or cancelled, we know it might feel like you can't fundraise right now. We understand, it a very challenging time for everyone.
However, if you fancy giving it a try, it is possible to still raise money (and have a giggle) by helping York Mind virtually!
We would really appreciate any support you are able to give. Big or small - all donations add up to see our charity (and everyone we support) through to the other side.
Feeling uninspired? Check out Holly's Lockdown Jukebox Challenge or Alfie's Covember page for some virtual fundraising heroes!
Why not try…

The Great Virtual Cake Off
Ask your mates to design a cake on Microsoft Paint, ask for the entries via email accompanied by a small donation, then gather votes for the Star Painter! (As a bonus, the entries could be social media gold…)
Get Ahead Competition
Host a video call with your friends and ask everyone to wear an interesting item on their head when they log on - everyone then votes for the winner! (The triumphant person then gets to skip making a donation).
Give A Little Bit
If you’re now lucky enough to find yourself with fewer things to spend £££ on, donating any small outgoings you would normally have can add up to make a big difference to York Mind:
- Donate your morning coffee: £3
- Donate your train fare: £10
- Donate your cinema trip: £15
- Donate your weekly parking fee: £25
- Donate your haircut: £40
Lockdown Jukebox
You make a donation to watch a friend ‘performing’ a song of your choice (via video calls or Facebook Live). This can be mimed, sung, interpreted through movement, spoken word… anything goes!
COVember
Get sponsored to grow (or draw on) the best moustache during lockdown time and document your progress with a picture every day. (Those without facial hair could use eyeliner pencil to decorate their face and take part!)
Selfie Tour Challenge
In the absence of an event to take part in, could you get sponsored to take your friends on a virtual tour of York? Take a selfie during your daily exercise and post it on social media, appreciating the sights and sounds of your route as you go.
Virtual pub quiz
Use Skype, FaceTime or Google Hangouts to hold a virtual pub quiz. Set up a JustGiving page and ask your guests to make a donation to take part.
Virtual Crafternoon
Get together with your favourite people online for a virtual spin-off of Mind’s craftiest fundraising event.
Virtual book club
Take your book club online or set up your own online book club. Donate the money that you would have spent on drinks and snacks to York Mind.
Online tutorials
Share your skills with others through online tutorials. You could do cooking, a foreign language or flower arranging. Ask for a donation in exchange for sharing your skills, which can be donated on your JustGiving page. Or does your friend have a skill that you have always wanted to learn? Ask them to set one up for you.
Ebay your clutter away
Now is a good opportunity to declutter, and working through your possessions is a chance to remember memories associated with them. Sell your clutter on Ebay, or go to a website like Music Magpie, which will give you cash in return for your old CDs and DVDs. Donate the money you make to York Mind.
Green fingers sweepstake
Choose your favourite plant and encourage your friends to sow seeds at the same time as you. Ask them for a donation, and over time you can watch your seeds change from seedlings into grown plants. The gardener of the plant that bares its first fruit or flower wins half the sweepstake donation. Donate the other half to York Mind.
Tell us what you're doing so we can help you
You don't have to isolate from York Mind's fundraising support - tell us what you're doing and we'll be in touch to help you (as much as remote working allows us to, anyway....)
