Baroness Virginia Bottomley She was a member of the House of Commons from 1984 to 2005. She entered the cabinet in 1992, serving successfully as Secretary of State for Health and Natural Heritage. She was appointed a Life Peer in 2005. She is Chancellor of the University of Hull.

Dr Vince Cable MP, has been a member of the House of Commons since 1997 He has a particular interest in Mental Health having met his first wife when working at the Retreat and having had a close personal experience of mental distress in his youth. He was born in York. .

Mr Frank Dobson MP, has been a member of the House of Commons   He served as Secretary of State for Health from 1997 to 1999 and was born in York.

The Vice Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire Colonel Edward York TD DL is the Queens second highest local representative.

Chair

Roger Thompson - Chair of York and District Mind Previously Northern Regional Director for the NSPCC and the Director of Social Services and also served on the Board of the local PCT. Currently he is a Member of the General Medical Council.

Director

Mike Beckett - Director of York and District Mind has portfolio career experience in the charity and community sector and has previous experience of working in Mental Health in the NHS and for Mental Health Matters.

Specialist Advisors to York and District Mind

Specialist advisor on Primary Mental Health Care: Dr David Geddes local GP and Medical Director of NHS North Yorkshire and York.

Specialist advisor on secondary Mental Health Care:  Dr Chris Holman Consultant psychiatrist and medical director at The Retreat in York.

Specialist advisor on Advocacy: Kate Earl has a special interest in Advocacy. She has experience working for Leeds Advocacy Network, Action for Advocacy and volunteer Advocacy, and has helped to facilitate self-advocacy groups. Kate also has personal experience of using mental health services.

Specialist advisor on Counselling: David Britten is a Lecturer in Counselling Studies at York St. John University, and a BACP-accredited, integrative counsellor/psychotherapist in private practice in York. David has a long-standing personal interest in the field of Mental Health; and this is why he choose, both during and after his counsellor training (2002 - 2006), to work as a volunteer counsellor at York and District Mind.
