Since 1952 we have worked to alleviate mental distress.
We do this now by offering information and support, counselling, befriending, support groups and advocacy to the residents of York and District.

Latest Developments:
York and District Mind are pleased to develop the Peer Mediation Project. The Mediation Manager will set up a service which teaches young peoples mediation, empowering them to support their peers to address conflict, emotions such as alienation, exclusion or insecurity arising from bullying and other negative situations. A pilot scheme, which initially will offer a training course (of three days' duration) which mirrors the people certification scheme for mediation services. Basic mediation stages and techniques, Negotiation and influencing skills and techniques, Active listening and feedback skills, Conflict resolution skills,How to deliver awareness training. The new RBS SE100 Data Report (1) charts the growth and impact of the UK's top social businesses and is seen as the social enterprise equivalent to the world renowned FTSE100. the services that you need, and ensuring that your voice is heard. We provide
you with information, help you to access services, speak up for you at meetings
and tribunals, and help you with form filling and letter writing.
efriending Service (Funded by The National Lottery through Big Lottery Fund)
Our befriending service, helps those in mental
distress who feel disconnected from others to re-engage with a friendly circle
of friends. Please contact us for further information.
Help for those with mental health issues, depression,
anxiety, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, abuse and other emotional
problems. Specific help for carers looking after relatives, friends or partners
with mental health or other emotional issues.

A wide range of information on mental health
and emotional issues is available to help you. Please call for an informal chat
with one of our friendly workers (Monday to Friday, 1pm to 5pm).
We undertake fundraising events and activities
and facilitate research projects both to enable greater resources and understanding
of issues relating to mental health.
We offer a number of support groups, currently
a Depression and an OCD Support Group. As well as a support group to help women
who have experience of complex health needs to find additional support in the
community called Reconnect and Recover.
