About York Mind's Advocacy Project

The project has been in existence since April 1997 and is funded by the City of York Council. It has been set up to help people who use psychiatric and other mental health services to have their say in decisions about their health and social care.

The advocate's job may include

  • advising on rights and assisting with appeals, negotiations or complaints procedures

  • attending doctor's appointments, hospital visits and reviews in a supportive role and occasionally speaking on someone's behalf

  • representing a service user in an appeal, hearing or tribunal

We offer you

  • one to one work which can be a challenge - and rewarding

  • high quality training and an opportunity to gain an NVQ level 3 or 4
